Do you want to learn to make a musical impact in just a few bars? Are you ready to start composing for more than one instrument?
In this course I’ll show you how to compose an effective basic fanfare and then how to take it to the next level through extending and developing your musical ideas. We’ll listen to some fantastic fanfares, apply the characteristic features to our own compositions and learn to write music with a flourish!
Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at KS3 (11-14 years) and GCSE (or equivalent; 14-16 years) students.

In this course you will:
- Learn about the origins of fanfare music
- Listen to and explore the musical features of fanfares
- Compose a melodic theme
- Structure your melody
- Use tonic and dominant triads to accompany your theme
- Develop your theme using various techniques
- Create a contrasting section
- Change the metre and key
- Discover how to write for percussion and brass
- Experiment with dynamics, tempo & articulation
- Learn how to take your composition to the next level
