What does the course include?
Composition – how to get started explores a range of paths for how to get started with a composition, from creating playlists and mood boards to writing a list of rules, using a code and improvising.

Each lesson in the new section “Start with a…” focuses on a different stimulus for composing such as: a chord sequence, rhythmic motif, image or scale.
Starting with an image is a great way to generate ideas for a composition – we start by exploring three diverse pieces inspired by artwork and then have a go at planning a composition using images as a starting point. You can download the worksheets (pictured below) and either print them off or create your own digital version.
How to use this course
Every classroom is different and teachers use our courses in various ways to suit their set-up and students:
- Display at the front and work through together with the class
- Use the content to inform personal lesson planning.
- Get your students to sign up individually (it’s FREE!) and work through the content at their own pace in school or at home.
